The story

It was built in the 18th century by a lama named in different accounts as Shida or Oensey Tshering Wangchuk. Unlike Bhutan's square chortens, it follows the Nepalese style of Boudhanath in Kathmandu, with a white dome and painted eyes. A smaller Bhutanese-style chorten was added beside it in 1982.

Before you go

It is about 41 km west of Trongsa, at about 2,430 m, after the Pele La pass. Most tours stop here for a picnic.
