The story

Phuntsholing is Bhutan's main land crossing with India, and many Indian visitors and road travellers enter here. The gate stands beside the regional immigration office, with the Indian town of Jaigaon on the far side. The road from here to Thimphu was finished in 1962.

Before you go

Walk through the gate and notice how fast the noise drops. From here the road climbs for five to six hours to Thimphu.
