Folk Heritage Museum

A farmhouse over 150 years old, now a museum of how rural Bhutanese families lived, cooked and stored their grain.

The story

The house is three storeys of rammed earth and timber, and once belonged to a local chief. The Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck opened it as a museum on 28 July 2001.

Look for

The kitchen, the tools for cooking and weighing, the grain stores and the old ways of keeping food. Climb the notched log ladder between floors, as in every farmhouse.

Before you go

It is in Kawajangsa, close to the Textile Academy and the arts school, so you can see all three in one morning.
