The story

Pema Lingpa (1450 to 1521) was born in Bumthang and is Bhutan's best-loved revealer of hidden treasures. He built Tamshing in 1501, died in 1521, and his remains rest in a stupa here. The temple is on Bhutan's tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage.

Look for

The old wall paintings, and a coat of iron chain mail said to have been made by Pema Lingpa. Pilgrims carry it three times round the inner shrine to clear away their sins.
